About
Welcome to The Ferry Centre
Located in a charming, repurposed Victorian primary school, The Ferry Centre provides a sanctuary for children who require a different approach to learning. Our historic building offers a sense of stability and space, featuring a large outdoor area where students can burn off energy and build social skills through football, basketball, and active play.
Just a 10-minute walk from the beach, we take full advantage of our coastal setting. This natural landscape serves as an extended classroom, allowing children to engage in outdoor learning within a peaceful, therapeutic environment that simply cannot be replicated in a traditional classroom.
Our Educational Philosophy
Through our dedicated team and caring approach, The Ferry Centre provides a safe space and the 'out-of-the-box' teaching necessary to create vital opportunities for children and young people to engage, socialise, and attain, thereby impacting families and turning lives around.
We believe that for a child to learn, they must first feel safe and understood. Our approach is built on three core pillars:
-
Bespoke Curriculum: We don’t believe in "one size fits all." Every child’s learning journey is tailored to their specific interests, strengths, and pace.
-
The Thrive Approach: Our staff are trained to support the social and emotional development of our students. By focusing on emotional resilience and secure attachments, we help children navigate their hurdles and prepare them for a brighter future.
Case studies
We pride ourselves on the transformations we see every day. Here is what some of our parents and carers have to say:
"I have seen a big difference; he is happy to go and cannot wait for school the next day. He has told me about things he has done, including writing—which he would not do in a mainstream school. He can now tell staff if he needs space, something he was never able to do before." — Parent 1
"Z's attendance has removed the pressures, anxieties, and sensory overload of the mainstream environment. This has allowed him to be more regulated, resulting in a significant improvement in his overall mental health. He has moved from a near-constant anxious state to a position where his desire to learn is growing and his frustration tolerance has increased." — Parent 2
